Cruising in Croatia

It is hard to believe that it was just last month that we left USA and saw the boat for the first time, so much has happened. After the trip up past Greece and Albania our first port of call in Croatia was Cavtat which is the southern most port where you can check in. The check in process was a bit convoluted visiting 3 different offices some two times but overall, very straight forward if not so efficient. Once complete and the cruising fee paid, we can now stay for up to 90 days in Croatia. That was almost 4 weeks ago and the country is amazing. There is a reason there are more super yachts here than any other part of the Mediterranean or the Caribbean. We stayed at anchor for a few days in the pretty fishing town of Cavtat swimming during the day and eating ashore in the evening.

The next stop was Dubrovnik where we anchored outside the city walls on the first night and then docked at a marina for a few days to explore the town.

It is a living medieval walled city that is absolutely magnificent. It is about 2 km to walk the entire wall and the there are many other great activities including the cable car ride with unbelievable views. Game of Thrones used the city for a lot of the scenes and the tour guides brings you to the exact spot where they filmed the “walk of shame”. Dubrovnik is a must visit place.

Our next stop was Mljet an island north west of Dubrovnik and most of the island is protected as a national park with great hikes and a 10th century Benedictine Monastery on an island in a lake – so many great pictures - check the map link below for pictures at each location. From Mljet we visited the island of Korcula which is like a mini Dubrovnik walled city and we got a memorable photo of the boat anchored in front of the city walls.

From Korcula on to Vis and I have created a Map showing the journey. If you expand the map and click on any location I have embedded a few pictures that we took at that location. After Vis we went on to Sesula where we tied up at a restaurant for the night – amazing food and location. From there we went to Maslinica where we met with friends from Ireland who had a charter boat and it was a great experience to spend a few days together before they returned back to Ireland.

We are wrapping up this leg at Zlarin another pretty fishing village riding out some strong southerly winds – see pic form B&G of sail up to Zlarin for any sailors interested in the conditions.

From here we will continue north to the Krka river and head up river to visit the National park and the waterfalls.

  1. Hi Fred!! What an adventure. It looks amazing and so beautiful. I love the map, charting your course. I hope you have a map beginning back in Turkey for a view of your entire adventure to date. It's been great to follow your travels. We miss you here on land but look forward to checking in and hearing what you are up to. Hopefully, Ita enjoyed her birthday on the water and you had a nice celebration for her. Thanks for Brett's birthday video. We think of you both often. Sending our love and hopes for more memorable times aboard CoKeMa. Can't wait to join you at some point. Safe sailing, with our love, Louise and Brett
