Croatia National Parks
The last post left off with us anchored in Zlarin sheltering from some strong southerly winds and from there we went across to the town of Sibenik on the mainland where we stayed at a Marina for a few nights. We used this as a base to do some exploring in the KRKA National Park. We took a taxi up to the town of Scradin where you can officially enter the park. Park boat takes you up to the falls at Scradinski. The MAP shows the boat journey with the connected lines and the places visited in the park as locations with pictures attached if you click on the location. Picture of us returning on the boat trip up to Roski buk.
About 70% of Croatia GDP is from tourism and the country works hard to maintain all tourist attractions in perfect shape. After the land based outing at the park we took CoKeMa up to Scradin to spend a night at Konoba Vidrovaca a restaurant with docking facilities recommended by friends. Overall the KRKA NP was another must visit if in Croatia.
Our next destination was the island of Murter with an overnight stop at Privic Luca to wait for some wind from the south. A friend from Ireland has been running a teaching / charter business out of Betina Marina for about 20 years and we planned to stay a few days there and use Murter as a base for exploring Kornati National Park. I also planned a day at Betina Marina for engine maintenance – changing oil, filters etc.
We had a great day out sailing with Jim from Activity Yachting and when going to a restaurant that night Ita stumbled and fell on her elbow. This changed the course of September and we were tied to the hospital in Sibenik initially for surgery and then post op treatment. We based the boat at the Marina in Betina and rented a car for a couple of weeks to travel the 25 miles back and forth to the hospital. When Ita was released we did make it out to Kornati NP and the landscape is very unique. We spent a night at Konoba Zakan, a small island with a great restaurant. On the flag pole at the top of the island was a Bruins sticker so we are not the only people from Boston to have visited this remote place.
For the last few days in Murter our Conor flew in to help us bring the boat back to Greece for the winter. We returned to KRKA in the rental car to show Conor the park and swim under the waterfalls another great day. Picture of Ita and Conor at Skradinski buk waterfalls.
Ita, I hope you heal up easily. These photos are fabulous!
